First free afternoon in Gangnam, and I’m stuck not on the city — but on phones I don’t even need to choose today.
After a few days of work in Seoul, today was my first stretch of free time walking the main street in Gangnam. The city feels fresh to me: vibrant, full of energy. Being out there should have been simple.
But even when I have enough money, and even when buying something wouldn’t take much work, purchase decisions still feel hard. That’s partly old habit. It shows up in small ways that shouldn’t matter this much.
Lately it’s the iPhone Duo versus the Samsung Fold 8. I’d love the Duo — the design is strong, and it feels innovative. The catch is it doesn’t support a physical SIM. I travel back to Shenzhen often, and without a physical SIM the phone is basically useless for me. I want the Duo as my primary phone, but an all-eSIM setup doesn’t really work with how I move around.
So I’ve been looking at the other option, the Samsung Fold 8 — partly because I’m in Seoul. Compared with the Duo, though, it doesn’t feel as good. I’m not trying to decide right now which one to buy. That’s not the point.
The point is these mid-sized little decisions that show up throughout the day. One by one they don’t look like much, but together they drain the energy.
